All the rejections are at last sent out after a four month wait by all you fabulously patient writers. My sincerest thank you goes out to everyone who’s stuck with the submissions process as various events beyond my control meant rejections and acceptances, etc didn’t go out in a timely fashion.
The very last set of rejection emails went out today, November 4, so if you didn’t get one then you’re still under consideration. In case you’re wondering, the stories that made it to the Second Round are as follows:
- A Midsummer Night’s Steam by Scott Farrell
- The Fall of Junius Kaiser by Peter Francis
- Mechanicals In The Midsummer Wood by Dennis M. Lane
- The Malefaction of Tybalt’s Mechanical Armature by Tim Kane
- The Misfiring Love Piston of Sir John Autumnrod by Larry C. Kay
- Julius C-ZR by Bret Jones
- Titus Androidicus by Catriona
- Richard 3.1 by Catriona
- Othello Prince of the Deep by Sarah Hans
- Henry the Eight-legged by Howard Mosely-Chalk
- Fatal Engine by Hannah Kate
- Richard, Dismantled by Jess Hyslop
- What You Fuel by Jaymee Goh
- Her Infinite Variety by K.V. Finn
- Measure for Steel-Sprung Measure by Rebecca Fraimow
- The Tumultuous Courtship of Katherine The Shrew To Petruchio The Pirate King
- A Clockwork Heart or The Measure of a Man by Ashley Reed
- Much Ado About Steam Presses by Ruth Booth
- Landship Engine by Claudia Alexander
- The Vintner’s Tale by Claudia Alexander
- The Rather Tragic Tale of King Lear’s Machinas by Jennifer Castello
- The Adventures of Lord Percival Pericles by Christina Scott Sayer Grey
- Cleopatra’s Artificer by Beth Birdsall
- The Rebel Engine by Natasha Simonova
Now, I have to mention that just because you’ve hit the Shortlist does not mean you’re getting into the Anthology. We only have space for 8 stories, and will be sending out acceptances and rejections for the second round by the end of November. This time I promise that deadline will actually be met.

Great news! Congrats to everyone in the Second Round.
Question: If I didn't receive a rejection, but my story isn't on the Shortlist, what does that mean? Is it still under consideration, is it rejected, or was it lost in the ether and never received?
Darn it, I was hoping everyone had received their emails but apparently they didn't. Yes, your piece was rejected, Victoria. I've just sent you an email.
If it's not in the shortlist posted here it's no longer one of the candidates for the anthology, Victoria. I'm sorry you didn't receive a personal rejection. Perhaps you could confirm with Matt Delman directly? You can find his contact links in the left margin.
Will Sonneteers also hear back by the end of the month?
Tucker — Yes, sonneteers wil be hearing back the by the end of the month. I'll email rejections personally and post a shortlist here.
Thank you! And … um … sorry for not telling you my surname. It's Mackay. Catriona Mackay.
Dear Matt, Jaymee, and Lia,
This is very exciting. Thank you for including me in the second round!
Wow, thanks guys. Really happy to have made the shortlist.
Very excited now.
Thank you so much for choosing my story for the second round! I hope that my pseudonym was on the piece that I sent you – Amber Grey (for "The Tumultuous Courtship….) XD.

Amber, you should e-mail or tweet Matt Delman directly about making sure the pseudonym is used. Congratulations on making it to the second round!
Is Amber Grey your pseud? That's funny, if it is, since Grey is my real life last name! : )
Yes it is. hehe I'm eventually going to change it to my legal name because my real last name is long, Italian and hard to pronounce. lol
