A List of Unadapted Shakespeare Plays and an Extended Deadline!

A very big thank you to all the writers who have submitted stories so far. Lia, Jaymee, and I are very much enjoying the products of your fertile imaginations!

However, we’ve noticed that some plays are garnering more attention than others. I’ve no idea why this is, but we’ve received a plethora of stories within a narrow range of plays and we’d like to see more variety. So without further ado I give you the following list of plays that have not yet been adapted into short stories:

All’s Well That Ends Well
As You Like It
Love’s Labours Lost
Measure for Measure
Merchant of Venice
Merry Wives of Windsor
Much Ado About Nothing
Twelfth Night
Two Gentlemen of Verona
Cymbeline
Henry VI, Part I
Henry VI, Part II
Henry VI, Part III
Henry VIII
King John
Richard II
Antony and Cleopatra
Coriolanus
King Lear
Othello
Timon of Athens

Also, another announcement — we’re extending the submissions deadline by one month to 12 a.m. U.S. Eastern Time on 30 June 2011.

However, this doesn’t mean the folks who submitted before the original deadline of 31 May will get left in the lurch as to whether their story has been accepted or not. We’ll be posting a Short List of stories received prior to 31 May after that date.

Yay new deadline! I've been working on a piece based on All's Well that might need a little extra development time. So excited to read this collection when it's published!

  2. Michael says:

I'm surprised Othello hasn't been covered. If there's anyone not below using tiny, clockwork assassins to do her job it's Desdemona.

Quick question; can someone who has already submitted a story for one play, they submit another for a second play?

  3. Lia Keyes says:

Yes, Michael. If you check the guidelines, it says that you can submit as many stories as you can write by the deadline. :)

I'm shocked nobody's done Lear yet, either. I just found out about this last week and submitted a sonnet adaptaion — but now I need to see if I can get a steampunk Lear in shape by the end of June!

  5. Mae Empson says:

Glad to hear of the extension. The guidelines appear to assume a standard short story. Would you welcome a scene in blank verse, like the original plays?

  6. diaryofaprogressivevamp says:

Hiya. Wondering if a sonnet can be adapted into a short steampunk story or if we must go sonnet to steampunk sonnet? Thanks!

  7. diaryofaprogressivevamp says:

No worries. Are there still some "missing" plays?

  8. Christina says:

Hello. Do we have a short list yet? The suspense is KILLING me! : )

    • Lia says:

It will take us about a month to read through the remaining stories that poured in on the deadline day, so a short list won't be forthcoming just yet. We'll let you know as soon as we possibly can! :)
